The Long Version
Long-Term Plans for the District
The district is starting to work on a five-year plan for the district, including personnel transitions (like the fire chief retiring) as well as budgeting for parks and other projects. The firefighter union was also asked for input. The board received the rough draft of the plan and will provide input at the next meeting.
I’ll have more information about the potential projects and public input opportunities after I stop by the district on Friday 2/23. Stay tuned!
Pleasant View Parks Updates
Westblade Park Upgrades
Tammy Waller, our district manager, successfully applied for a grant that will pay for upgrades to Westblade Park. Work could start as soon as this week, so you may notice closures or construction around Mt Vernon Road. I’ll have more details once I chat with Tammy on Friday 2/23!
Wolf Park Clean-up
About 50 volunteers participated in Golden Junior Baseball Association’s (GJBA) clean-up of Wolf Park as they prepare for opening day. New dugouts are completed, and new windows and doors will also be installed before opening day to upgrade the concession stand.
Dinger from the Colorado Rockies and the Pleasant View Fire Department will be at opening day, and there may be other festivities. Save the date for April 13!
Pleasant View Fire Department Updates
The fire department responded to 94 calls in January, which is up slightly from last year. Overall, call volume is starting to re-stabilize at about 1,200 calls a year. This could change as more development brings new residents. The department is also working with the City of Golden on a new service agreement to respond to calls based on who is closest. This could also increase call volume.
Volunteer Firefighter Academy
The fire department is putting on a volunteer firefighter academy beginning March 2. There are 15 recruits and the department hopes to retain at least 10 to build up its volunteer pool.
New Fire Engine
Pleasant View voters raised the mill levy collected by the district in 2021, which helped purchase a new fire engine. That new engine is almost here! The department hopes to have it in service by April and is planning a community celebration to christen the new engine. Make sure to follow the department on Facebook to stay in the loop!
Neighbor Questions
Q: To vote in Pleasant View elections or provide comments at meeting, do you have to own property in the district or just live in it?
A: Anyone who lives in the district can come to meetings, comment, and vote.
Q: What is Pleasant View doing to protect further encroachment into Camp George West Open Space? The GLO Park public parking exceeds the originally swapped 9 acres.
Q: I learned about the $3.5 million from Jefferson County Open Space to be used for Camp George West upgrades as part of the land swap. Is that paying for proposed turf and lights at the fields? Or something else? What was the public input process for those decisions?
The board did not discuss the final two questions - the structure of the meetings only allows for public comment, but there’s no discussion with the board. Hopefully they will have a response at the next board meeting.
More Information
The next board meeting is March 19 at 4 p.m. The agenda is posted on the district website a few days in advance, and I’ll try to post an update here and to NextDoor.
If you would like to suggest a topic for the board meeting’s agenda, reach out to district manager Tammy Waller at twaller@pleasantviewmetro.org.
You can also ask Tammy to make an in-person appointment to look at the more detailed packets the board reviews during the meetings.
