The Long Version
Pleasant View Parks Updates
Westblade Park has a nice new sidewalk to make it much safer to walk or bike into the park. The sidewalk is along Mt Vernon Road and looks great. I’ve used it to run a few times and it’s a huge improvement! Next to be installed is a new pavilion on the same side of the park. It will be reservable once it’s complete.
The parks department is also working on being able to accept credit card payments for reservations. Stay tuned for updates!
Pleasant View General District Updates
The district has finished its annual financial audit, which is a requirement for every metro district and local government. The financial report will be available on the Pleasant View website once the auditors finalize it.
The new WiFi has been installed, much to the fire department’s delight. Slow WiFi was a big challenge with so many firefighters on shift trying to use it at once. The district also installed new HVAC in Hatzis Hall, the building across the street that the fire department uses for training.
Pleasant View Fire Department Updates
The fire department finalized a new agreement with the Golden Fire Department to help the departments function better together. The new agreement essentially has the closest unit respond, regardless of the district boundaries. This should help better serve both Golden and Pleasant View emergencies.
The new fire engine has been in service for three weeks and has already been to three fires, including the tanker explosion on I-70. The fire department is hosting a dedication ceremony on June 23rd at 1 pm at the fire station. Everyone is welcome! Pleasant View voters approved an increase in the mill levy a few years ago to pay for the engine, so the fire department is excited to celebrate with the community.
The fire department had 114 calls in April. The biggest issue the department is dealing with is storage unit fires, which people are resorting to living in due to a lack of affordable housing.
Since the meeting, 11 probationary firefighters graduated from Pleasant View Fire Academy!
